Accreditation Review Process
The review process is a voluntary action taken by a vendor of ropes challenge courses services, including aerial adventure parks, canopy tours and zip line tours, to ensure and validate that their installation, training, inspection, and other company services comply with the designated American National Safety Standard ANSI 1.0-.3-2014. During the review process, at least two experienced reviewers of the standard compliance and the review process, will travel to at least two different installation projects and trainings of the vendor being reviewed. A complete review of the company paper work, installation manuals, training manuals, insurance documentation, references, builder history, services provided, and other pertinent information will be examined. If the reviewers require additional information, they will make the request of the vendor during the review process. The are no guarantees that a vendor entering the process will automatically pass and the review raises the bar and expectations of the services the vendor is marketing to the public.
During the pre-application, professional review, and post review process, along with vendor conduct and compliance, certain situations will present themselves for questions, clarification, and definition. It is extremely difficult to prepare a review process that will meet each and every vendor’s unique situation. Therefore certain specific issues will be addressed on a case by case basis. Examples of this may include a vendor who specializes in certain geographic regions, sub-contracts training to another peer reviewed PRCA vendor for training, or only installs ropes courses in trees. These examples would create special items for discussion and will be addressed during the review process.
While certain issues will be conducted on a case by case basis, other underlying expectations will hold true. Examples would be:
- Fees and charges will be $2,000 plus the travel expenses for a two person review team, to and from your location and courses to be reviewed for standards compliance and the review process. All balances will be paid in full prior to successful completion of the review process.
- There is no magic number of builder, inspector, and/or training days in order to achieve a solid knowledge base of ropes challenge course construction. However, a typical and experienced individual builder that would be most likely to have a successful review will likely have in excess of 200 builder days, in all conditions and multiple formats E.G. trees, poles, high ropes, low ropes, dynamic and static belays, and many different element selections from Cargo Nets, to Pamper poles, to Zip Lines, to Balance Logs, and to Climbing surfaces such as walls and/or towers.
- The review process is an overlook of the entire vendor organization, not just one specific builder / trainer qualifications. Thus, quality control measures will need to be in place to promote continuity on all vendor projects if the vendor contact builders are not present on an installation.
- Reviewed vendors will be expected to comply with the designated ANSI ANS for the duration of their active membership in that role. Vendors whom do not comply may be subject to a suspension period.
- Reviewed vendors will be expected to sign a document outlining their commitment to the designated ANSI ANS, quality compliance, and association liability waiver during their active vendor membership.
- Reviewed vendors will sign a “hold harmless” statement waiving any litigation to the PRCA, Board of Director, officers, agents, or third parties. This is because the PRCA only reviews a vendor as a snap shoot of their overall business practices and the PRCA is not liable for any day to day operational decisions a vendor may or may not make in the course of doing business.
- Reviewed vendors will conduct themselves in a professional fashion which brings positive attention to the PRCA, the review process, and to the industry of ropes challenge courses.
